This is my firts traditional piece of 2012, and as you've probably just read, is a commissioned piece.

The request was about a dark Alice in Wonderland with a keyhole frame all around. I added all other elements as the clock, playing cards, the rabbit to make the composition works better. And this is the final result. Anyway, I'm not completely satisfied with it (there are some mistakes here and there actually), but considering the amount of time I had, it was very funny to come back to my pencils and paper...♥

Hello guys,

how have you been? I hope every thing's fine, even if times are really really hard lately...and I'm not only speaking about the financial crisis, but about me, job is driving me crazy...
Anyway, no more sad stuff: I'm going to plan a livestream chat session, where I will paint digitally something (I still have to decide if a brand new piece or to take an old sketch), and chatting in the meanwhile with you. I was thinking about a couple of hours (or a bit more) on next Sunday afternoon (so I mean the 18 of December), at 16:00 o' clock (GMT +1). I will speak English, Italian, and a bit of Spanish, and I apologize 'till now for my horrible spoken "whatever"! I just want to choose a day and a "time-scale" good also for my foreign followers, especially American and Asian ones. ^^
You can ask me whatever you want (please, be nice guys!) :D
So...what do you think about it? Do you like the idea? Any suggestions about the day/time/sketch choice/whatever?

how are you? Hope you're all fine. :) I don't know how's whether anywhere near you but here in Italy summer finally has gone, and a very cold autumn has just started. ♥
Ok it's time for some updates. A good one: you can pre-order Exotique 7, it will be out on November. Take a look to the preview and flip through pages, you will see a lot of amazing art and so many talented friends of mine. Don't miss it. :love:

The other news is about me and my job, and it's nice and bad at the same time. I'm busy. REALLY busy. I mean with comic colouring. Actually I'm more a colorist than an illustrator, and this means I have a monthly paid job (it's like a wage, and that's the good part of the news): all plans for the next months are crazy about that. On the other hand, this means I have no time for anything else: I thought I could have October as a semi-free month at least , but I have to substitute a colleague whom luckily will be at New York Comicon as artist in the very next weeks. I planned a lot of stuff for this month but all the "things to do" stuff (tutorials, finishing some illustrations I started and never finished because of the other job, starting new stuff, and so on...) have turned into a "wannabe wishlist" now. So, I don't know when I will have enough time to go on with my projects, probably I will update this gallery not very often in the near future. I'm really sorry. In this moment I envy so much all people who can live with their own art. I'll try to draw and exercise myself the same, but I'm afraid this is not going to be that easy, and probably I'll slacken my improvements and skills about my style and this makes me quite sad. But that's not only a matter of drawings and paintings, a lot of other stuff concerning my job as illustrator (as make my own shop, find an agency, re-built my website, and so on) will be postponed in an undefined moment. If I will have some free days I thought about a virtual meeting/tutorial on livestream TV, but I can't plan anything for the moment, anyway I'll keep you updated about that on my webs (also on my DA journal of course).
Well, I don't want to complaining a lot about that or find many "excuses" about it (at least I'm working on something related to my job as well, I'm not doing stuff I really don't like just because of money), I know it's my own fault: I'm not able to organize myself differently, I feel insecure about everything, I'm not brave enough perhaps and I choose the easiest way. But I just wanted to share my thoughts and my current situation, because my gallery is going to be on hiatus for an undefined time. Thanks a lot for your comprehension and for your lovely daily support, Scarlet loves you. ^^

Mi dispiace informarvi che, date le circostanze a causa di alcuni cambiamenti dell'ultimo minuto nelle condizioni di partecipazione, il mio lavoro non sarà esposto alla mostra prevista per la III Convention Retro-futuristica Steampunk di Barcellona, in programma per le date de 12 e 13 Novembre 2011.
Siamo in tanti artisti che hanno deciso di non esporre alla Convention Steampunk di quest'anno, e abbiamo ritenuto opportuno dare una spiegazione al pubblico e a coloro che hanno contribuito con donazioni attraverso "Lánzanos.com".

La ragione principale per la nostra defezione è dovuta ad un cambiamento delle condizioni di partecipazione a circa un mese dalla consegna delle opere. In un primo momento (come l'anno scorso), la stampa e il montaggio delle opere era prevista dall'organizzazione. Quest'anno, come ben sapete, c'è stata una campagna di raccolta fondi "Lánzanos" per migliorare ed ampliare l'evento espositivo. Siamo stati sorpresi quindi di ricevere una e-mail un paio di settimane prima della scadenza, per cui noi illustratori avremmo dovuto farci carico di ogni spesa possibile: la stampa, la cornice e la spedizione delle opere (nel mio caso specifico, dall’estero). Queste non erano le condizioni per le quali avevamo concordato la partecipazione, tenendo conto che alcuni autori sono al di fuori del paese e che questo comporta ulteriori costi.

Un altro motivo che ci ha lasciato perplessi, è stata la poca informazione riguardo la sicurezza e lo spazio a disposizione. Sappiamo che ci sono stati cambiamenti logistici per la Convention, ma ad oggi nessuno ci ha informati in merito al luogo di esposizione, o di chi sia la responsabilità in caso di furto o danneggiamento (dato che i costi sono tutti a nostro carico) e il bilancio non include più nemmeno i vetri di protezione delle sculture, abiti o gadget come nelle edizioni precedenti.

Ci auguriamo che le nostre ragioni vengano comprese e ci scusiamo per il disagio."

Lamento comunicaros que, debido a cambios de última hora en las condiciones y dadas las circunstancias, mi trabajo no será expuesto en la exposición programada para la III Convención Steampunk y Retrofuturista de Barcelona, prevista para las fechas 12 y 13 de Noviembre de 2011.

Debido a que somos muchos los artistas que hemos decidido no exponer en la Convención Steampunk de este año, hemos creído justo el dar una explicación tanto al público como a aquellos que colaboraron con donaciones a través de "Lánzanos.com".

El motivo principal de nuestra renuncia es debido a un cambio radical en las bases de participación a un mes vista de la entrega de las obras. En un principio (y como el año pasado) la impresión y montaje de las obras corría a cargo de la organización. Este año, como bien sabéis, se hizo una campaña de recaudación en "Lánzanos" para mejorar el evento y ampliar la exposición. Nos sorprendió recibir un email a pocas semanas de la fecha límite de que somos nosotros, los ilustradores, quienes hemos de hacernos cargo de imprimir nuestras obras, proporcionarnos nuestro propio marco (urnas de cristal en el caso de aquellos que exponen gadgets y artesanías), y los gastos de envío de las obras. Estas no son las condiciones sobre la que acordamos exponer, teniendo en cuenta también que hay autores de fuera del país, con lo que esto conlleva.

Otro de los motivos son las dudas en la seguridad y el espacio disponibles. Sabemos que ha habido cambios en cuestión del espacio para la convención, pero a día de hoy nadie nos ha dicho donde piensan colocar la exposición, ni si va a haber algún responsable que impida que las obras sean, robadas o dañadas (recordemos que estas mismas salen de nuestro bolsillo) ya que el presupuesto ya no contempla las vitrinas de protección para las obras de escultura, indumentaria o gadgets como en anteriores ediciones.

Esperamos entendáis nuestras razones y disculpad las molestias ocasionadas"

Termite Bianca is an italian comic, created by Marco Bianchini, Marco Santucci, and drawn by Patrizio Evangelisti. If you can get it, is strongly recommended! :love:

Some months ago I received a mail directly from Marco Bianchini, in which he asked me to participate as author in the second volume of Termite Bianca Tributes.
Obviously I accepted immediately, it's such a great honor for me to be a part of this amazing project.

I had the permission to publish it as preview, but the second issue will gather a lot of great authors and illustrators (not only Italians!), something that couldn't be missed! Stay tuned for publishing infos...:heart:

Thanks to the sweet My Ambeon I discovered which is the Imagine FX issue I got my feature! :D

They wrote me some months ago, after they gave me a daily feature on their website, asking for a little bio, some of my works to be featured on their magazine DVD, but they didn't tell me in which issue they would have put my stuff (and by my side, I didn't ask them too)!
Since this morning, when Jennifer sent me this screenshot (we chatted a bit yesterday about it, she has been featured on the 74 issue), telling me "hey, wait a moment, you're on the 73 issue!"

It's official...I'm going to be featured on the next Exotique issue! ^^

I'm so excited about it because a lot of artists friends have been selected too and I hope this list will increase as the hours pass! And moreover, I'm happier because this is my very first time with Ballistic, and generally with these kind of books and publisher...anyway, can't wait to see it, it will be available in november!

Finally! This piece took me forever! :O
This is my entry for Exotique 7, a special book that gathers the best digital character design. I was inspired by Aibhill, one of the most famous banshees of Celtic legends: she appeared in Brian Boru's dream before an important battle, while she was washing some bloody clothes until the clear water turned into red.

I preferred to add a Celtic/liberty frame instead of keeping just the character with a background, because I think it's more personal (at least, it's my latest "trend" to give an art nouveau mood to my pieces) than the billions fantasy character design you can find everywhere. Anyway, it helped me a lot about composition because I could add some symbolic details on the four corners: a silver comb (some legends tell about silver combs left on the ground, as symbols of a banshee presence), a hooded crow (they usually appear into this animal form), a skull (they portend death), and a sword (usually the ones about to die are warriors).
Ok, I don't like to explain a lot about my artworks, so I let you guess and interpret...^_^

I went to an art show about Prerapahelites in Italy and I discovered this wonderful statue.
It has a very steampunk mood, and I was totally amazed when I read that it was made in 1899. :O
The whole artshow was amazing, I could see a lot of paintings I literally adore, from Rossetti and Burne Jones. Very inspiring...<3

anyway, i don't know if a colored version will ever see the light, but I totally had to draw her. I felt in love...<3

Yes, sometimes I fall again into traditional art. :D
I made this piece just for fun and to relax myself a bit before start with my job.
I had no particular story or meaning behind this piece, since my friend Elo tell me about a strange, rich woman who loved making hats with died creatures...creepy, isn't it?
Anyway, taxidermy is something used in fashion, especially for hats...and I really like them! <3
Maybe I should write and illustrate stories about it! XD

Reverland Game project

These artworks are some studies I made about one year ago, for a game project called "Reverland", abandoned for the moment. This game was supposed to be a point&click videogame (or graphic adventure), settled in a "victorian" Rome and in the Dream World, the title indeed is a word-game with the word "neverland" and "reverie". The main concept is inspired by Machinarium, Gulliver's Travels, Lovecraft and obviously steampunk aesthetics. I think this project could be very interesting, it's a shame I had to give up with it (good intentions from the client, but, sad to say, I saw no money and I was completely alone about developing it, except for all software parts and soundtracks), a lot of stuff planned is amazing, especially the music (we have two tracks done), but we all worked for free and for a project like this, that requires a loooot of hard work, is something that doesn't last. However, all this stuff was getting old, so I decided to post the "best" I made for it. I hope you enjoy it. :)

I really enjoyed the story and I had so much fun with the illustration. The whole Alia project is very interesting too, it's worth it!

Oh gosh...finally I got it! So many hours of work for this piece, because working without reference is very hard and you need to fix a lot of times. I mostly drawn it digitally, following just a traditional sketch I made but that didn't satisfy me so much (the reason why I won't show you it)! :D

This one is an amazing collaboration done with a friend and a colleague of mine, EloElo : please, take a look at her gallery or blog ([link]), because it's really worth it, she is very talented and skilled about so many art fields. ♥

Eva indeed is the main character of a comic project, written, drawn and colored by herself, and this one obviously is my interpretation.
Yes she is totally naked and the "weird" tentacles are exactly what they're supposed to be... It's an hard comic guys, what did you expect? XD

Anyway, I got some inspiration to Art Nouveau and Klimt for the color palette (I really love how he managed gold and "metallic" colors). ^^

Some weeks ago she contacted me asking for a collaboration: she wanted to reproduce my illustration My Little Darling, my other tribute to Mijn Schatje. I was immediately excited by her offer, so I suggested her to contact Mijn to ask also her permission (the mask design belongs to Marie).
And yesterday I saw the amazing result: I think this doll is really stunning! I love her, it's perfect in every detail (I really love the interpretation of her missing parts in particular)!

Hello guys, ^^

I haven't been around so much lately, 'cause I had a lot to do and surely it's not finished at all. I started to work as colorist for IDW Publishing, and my first complete comic is this one: https://shop.idwpublishing.com/comics/series/infestation/infestation-1.html , sold out and now on its second printing (yay! :D). During February I finished the second and last volume of this comic and I hope I can post some pages here as soon as possible. I'm very proud and honored to work for such amazing and famous artists as David Messina and Lara West. To be a colorist is a full time and very hard job, as much as to be a comic artist: you have to respect all deadlines and this could mean you have to work till the morning light. Yes, I miss so much to draw and to color my stuff, but since my personal artworks wont allow me to do well for myself, this will be my "gainful" job. :) So, sorry guys if I wont post a lot of stuff here, especially completed pieces, but I know you'll understand it! Anyway, I'll try to draw and doodle as much as I can, and to update my gallery more often! ;p

my very first artwork of 2011...yay! Have you ever expected another traditional piece by me? ♥

It's nothing special with no particular meaning, I just wanted to do something in traditional technique (I missed it sooooo much lately!) and to try this color palette, with purple and blue tones. The challenge here was the skin color. Obviously the original piece on paper has a smoother texture and vivid colors. I tried the same to adjust them as on the original one, but it's not a very simple step to do (and it seems that scanners don't like so much magenta mixed with blue)... :/
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! ^^

It's really hard to work without reference photos, but i wanted to give it a try...:)

Eccomi qui, tornata ieri sera dal Lucca Comics and Games 2010 e, se non vi spiace, vorrei spendere due parole in merito (si lo so, dico sempre "due parole" e poi vne scrivo duemila! XD).
Per la prima volta sono stata a questa meravigliosa fiera tutti e quattro i giorni. Benché sia un esperienza molto stancante, mi è davvero sembrato di vivere in un sogno. Adoro l'atmosfera che si crea ogni volta durante queste manifestazioni; tantissima gente accomunata dalla stessa passione, che viene dimostrata nelle maniere più svariate: chi lo fa come cosplay (a proposito, nella mia personalissima classifica dei "best of" menziono al 1° posto il cosplay di Gesù con croce di legno annessa, al 2° il cosplay del "sono il cosplay di uno che non è un cosplay", e al 3° il gruppo degli "indovina chi?"), o chi fa ore di fila pur di accaparrarsi più firme e dediche possibili dagli autori presenti agli stand, o chi compra all'inverosimile (cioè io! :D), chi partecipa alle conferenze...insomma, un'atmosfera di pace, di divertimento e di calore umano malgrado la pioggia che ci ha letteralmente massacrati domenica e lunedì...ma noi siamo sempre più forti! :D
Purtroppo la pioggia mi ha impedito di fare molti colloqui lavorativi (causa sicura distruzione del book), ma recupererò via internet in qualche modo...:p Ma devo dire che sono stra-felice di tutti gli acquisti che ho fatto (mi sono svenata ma ne è valsa la pena) e delle persone meravigliose che ho incontrato (menzione d'onore a Luis Royo che mi ha reso la donna più felice del mondo quando mi ha riconosciuta! *o* muchísimas gracias Luis, me has encantado, eres un cielo...estuve demasiado halagada y confundida pero la próxima vez quiero también una fotilla y hablar un poco, aun si mi español es un desastre XD!).
Ringrazio di cuore, davvero TUTTI coloro che sono passati a darmi un saluto sabato pomeriggio allo stand di Absolute Black (colgo l'occasione per scusarmi per non essere stata presente gli altri giorni, Luca mi ha detto che mi avete cercata in molti ma per problemi logistici e di tempo non siamo riusciti ad incastrare gli orari per le firme e le dediche allo stand), mi avete davvero lusingata...<3
Un grazie in particolare a Luca Belloni (mitico!), Nicol Black & Samanta Leone (vi devo ancora un disegnino ragazze! :D), Umberto Sisa e Giulia di Dagon Press, e Lorenzo Romani (il grafico di Vampiri, se non mi ricordo male il nome)...siete i migliori, continuate così che andrete lontano! :)
Un saluto ancora ai mitici David Messina, Sara Pichelli, Elena Casagrande e Ilaria Traversi... vi "lovvo" a tutti, sappiate che prossimamente vi romperò le palle per un disegno colorato e con dedica, muhahahahah! <3 (Arianna ma 'ndo stavi tu??? Te possino, non ci siamo incontrate...ç_ç)
E ultimi ma non meno importanti, un grazie immenso ad EloElo (<3 amoraaaa!), Fabio "STB01" Listrani (un grande!), e al mio amatissimo Carlo, che mi sopporta (e supporta) ovunque...grazie di aver reso questa esperienza possibile!
Che dire di più? Ah si, Lucca è una città magnifica (anche a livello "umano" sono stati tutti molto pazienti e gentilissimi), spero di poterla visitare meglio e con più calma!
Vabè dai, la smetto di ammorbarvi...ci rivedremo al Lucca Comics & Games 2011! :)

Yvonne: the Fallen Star

Personal work.
This is another entry inspired by Stardust, by Neil Gaiman. As you probably already guessed, she is the beautiful Yvonne, the fallen star.
I represented her while she is holding the jade pendant of the Stormhold royal family. She is a bit sad, as in the book description.
I have nothing to say about this piece in particular, but I have to admit I really enjoyed to do all jewelry she wears, I really love painting gold and precious stones. ^^ ♥ ♥ ♥
As usual, the poetry on background is the same of the other painting. It's by John Donne. I have it in my Stardust copy, as a sort of "incipit" for the novel, I guess you can find it in every world wide version...:D

Personal work.
I've just finished the novel by Neil Gaiman, Stardust. I really love this book (well, I felt in love with Gaiman stories) and I liked the movie version too...but I have to admit that the movie characters aren't very close to the "real" ones, so when I read that the eldest of Lilim sisters, Morwanneg, was not blonde I immediately figured her out and I felt the need to paint her (mh, I'm also thinking about a similar painting for Yvonne). And this is the result...yes, compared to the sketch version, I changed her hand position, I prefer in this way. ;p
About jewels, I designed them by myself but one: the witch has this snake shaped bracelet. Surfing the net I found a very nice photo of a liberty style jewel that inspired me for this one. :) I also took the occasion to use a light from below, that I think with witches and magic stuff, works perfectly. ^^

Finally the movie will be on air on the 29th of September 2010, at 21:10 on Canale5... I'm quite excited about that, I can't wait to see it because it's weird, but I don't know the whole plot at all! ^^
Yep, it's only italian television (I'm sorry, it's not hollywood ), but I hope to put here some youtube videos or similar stuff! :p

how's everything? :)
Ok, I don't want to waste your time, buts since so many of you asked for a digital painting Tutorial, I'm proud to announce that's finally ready to use!

It took me a lot of time to deisgn and write it down, so please, don't be rude with comments!

It tooks a lot of time to decide what kind of illustration I wanted to do, and in the end I opted for a sort of siren (yep, I'm into Japanese stuff this last period :D), also inspired a bit by Dead Can dance song "The Lotus Eater". Well, I just wanted to do an "easy" piece where I could explain different stuff: anatomy, water effects, nature painting, effects as drops and bubbles, animals, and so on...(oh well, the concept indeed isn't special at all)
Moreover, I've never paint a real mermaid until now (so first attempt also with it).
Ok, so no more chatting! Enjoy the piece and...the tutorial!

Ribbon Red

It's been a while I didn't post anything new. Well, I've made this piece just to try out my brand new box of Luminance. This has been one of my birthday gift and I'm soooo happy to have them (they were on my wish-list for too long). ♥♥♥

They're really amazing pencils, the final effect is quite similar to chalks (how you can mix them together, or their texture for example) but they're easier to use, for sure you won't soil all around the sheet. the pigment is amazing, very rich and luminous. For all these reason, they're really expensive too...but I'm sure that I will became addicted to them, so I will replace all the missed one (when finished obviously)!

About the style, this time I preferred to use one closer to this one, [link] because I want to improve my skills with this style and, last but not least, surely it was faster than do something more realistic...
The title is "Ribbon Red" instead of "Red Ribbon" because I like most how it sounds!

Done in 20 minutes I guess, just for fun and because of I had the inspiration immediately when I saw him (yesterday, me and a friend, we were remembering our childhood and he was one of our male idol, so I searched some pics...it was a very hard work )!

My Little Darling. Tribute to Mijn Schatje.

This illustration is a tribute to Marie, or better known as Mijn Schatje, a wonderful artist and a good friend. Marie organized a little contest for her birthday, called The Cute Contest: briefly, you have to print the mask she made, and take a shoot of you with the mask on your face. The idea is really cute and I've been inspired by it, so I've made a little tribute: one of my illustrations containing her picture for the contest! In this picture the mask design belongs directly to Marie, and the title is the translation of the dutch words "mijn schatje".

I hope it's clear that the girl is the "real version" of the mask face. I have not used any reference for this illustration and it took me few hours to finish it. As you can see from the line-art, during the color step, I've decided to put a pearl necklace and a pair of glows on her hands...don't ask me why, it's quite unusual I paint gloves so I used the occasion!

The picture with a lot of (bad) drawings are some studies done without references, the other one instead I used a model reference (lockstock) just to study better the light/shades effects...enjoy! ♥

I start here with some news: my original painting for the Beautiful Grim Organization has been sent (in USA of course, or better in California) and now it's available to be purchased by you! So, what is Beautiful Grim Organization? Briefly it's a charity auction against Breast Cancer, so the proceeds will be donated to charity, probably to one of the most important and helpful American foundations (there is a poll, choose one if you have preference).
